4 Creative Ways to Have a Sustainable Father’s Day

This post is sponsored by Matt & Nat.

Father’s Day is less than two weeks away (Sunday, June 19). Have you thought about what you’ll do to celebrate?

Neckties and golf gear are so last century. If you’re looking for a way to celebrate Dad while also staying green, we’ve rounded up some ideas for you. Follow our guide and show your pops how much you love him — and the planet.

1. Get Outside

If your dad loves to explore new scenic areas, you could head into the fresh air for a hike. There are thousands of short trails around the U.S. that you can do in a morning or afternoon. If you’re near a beach, spend a day in the waves or building sandcastles. Go catch-and-release fishing in a nearby river, or toss a Frisbee in the park.

2. Have an Adrenaline Experience

Is your dad a work hard, play hard type? Indulge his need for speed while keeping your carbon footprint low. Try a green high-energy experience like white-water rafting, zip-lining, rock climbing, or bungee jumping. You’ll get the perfect adrenaline rush while making sure you’re not damaging the environment.

3. Grill Some Goodies

Some dads light up best when they’re manning a grill. If this is your pops, help the grill guy go green while you prepare your feast. Hit up a farmer’s market for fresh corn and tomatoes, and stop at the butcher for local, organic meat. When grilling, opt for natural gas, propane, or electric. If you’re using charcoal, go with organic charcoal lumps.

4. Choose the Perfect Eco-Friendly Gift

It’s always nice to have something to unwrap (from 100% recycled wrapping paper, of course). We love the timeless style of these vegan leather bags by Matt & Nat.

The Coen messenger bag (shown in Chestnut) is great for work. It has three interior pockets and a zippered outer pocket for easy access. The Phi crossbody bag (shown in Chili) is the ideal bike commuter bag. Its hidden magnetic closure is sleek. But our favorite part is the canvas straps that allow Dad to attach the bag to his bike’s handlebars.

Socially responsible brand Matt & Nat‘s signature vegan leather is super-strong and durable. These bags aren’t only ethical, they’re sustainable. Even better, all linings are made from 100% recycled bottles! That’s about 21 bottles recycled for each bag. For a $100 minimum, you also get free shipping to the U.S. and Canada.

Shop Matt & Nat through Goodshop and your chosen cause receives a 2% donation!

We’re thinking this is a pretty sweet way to say thanks to Dad for being a great guy.
