\u00a0Since 1949, Mental Health America<\/a> and their U.S. affiliates have led the observance of May as Mental Health Month. The objective is to reach millions of people through the media, local events and screenings, and to spread the word that mental health is something everyone should care about. <\/span><\/p>\n

The theme this year is Risky Business. The mission is to educate people about habits and behaviors that increase the risk of developing or exacerbating mental illnesses, or that could be signs of mental health problems themselves. Mental Health America offers special toolkit materials and awareness raising events this month to help educate individuals and communities of the risky behaviors, the importance of detecting these early warning signs, and how to get help.<\/p>\n
