Many ordinary items found at home have more than one purpose. We\u2019re living in a disposable age where nothing\u2019s meant to last, but that doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t do something about it. Here are some unusual yet effective uses for everyday stuff found at home:<\/p>\n

Newspapers<\/b><\/h2>\n

Power outages are becoming more common these days, due partly to growing demand and dated power grids. The next time your power goes out and you don\u2019t want to lose all that food in your freezer, crumple up some newspaper and fill in the empty spaces. Your food will stay frozen longer because there won\u2019t be air space between items. You can also use newspaper to deodorize small areas like food containers or shoes.<\/p>\n

Coffee Grounds<\/b><\/h2>\n

Think twice before you toss those coffee grounds.\u00a0It\u00a0can be used for many things, including fertilizer for your plants and vegetables. Coffee\u00a0also makes a great natural odor eliminator. Put some grounds in an empty container, poke holes in the top and leave it on the counter or stick it in the fridge to keep things smelling fresh.<\/p>\n

Stockings<\/h2>\n

Consider using old pantyhose as\u00a0a polishing or dusting cloth for household furnishings like lamps and tables. Do you have\u00a0a\u00a0lost object (like a missing earring) that you don\u2019t want to accidentally vacuum up? Stretch some pantyhose over the vacuum hose and fasten with the elastic from the pantyhose band. Take advantage of elasticity in general by tying up objects. Do you need a temporary fix for the hole in your screen door?Patch it up with some hosiery!<\/p>\n

Lemons<\/b><\/h2>\n

If you have expired, wrinkly lemons in the fridge or leftover lemons from lemonade, don\u2019t throw them in the compost just yet. Lemon juice contains strong acid that destroys bacteria. You can use that juice to disinfect things uses like chopping blocks and counter surfaces, or whiten your fingernails by rubbing the lemon over them. You can even brighten your laundry whites by adding half a cup of lemon juice to a normal load of laundry!<\/p>\n

Tennis Balls<\/b><\/h2>\n

It turns out tennis balls aren\u2019t just for playing tennis. If your floors are scuffed, there\u2019s no need for expensive and harsh cleaners. Put a tennis ball on the end of a stick or a broom and rub it over those stubborn scuffs. Tennis balls can also help prevent your floor from being scratched by furniture. Cut some in half and attach to the ends of chair legs. The next time you\u2019re doing laundry,\u00a0go ahead and throw a couple of tennis balls in the dryer. They\u2019ll fluff up your clothes and make your load dry faster!<\/p>\n
