About Brock Strong Foundation
Brock "B-Rock" Johnson was a 14 year old boy who had been in the hospital as much as he was out during his short lifetime. He was born with a unnamable auto-deficiency. Finally, he had a bone marrow transplant than caught an infection which took his life. He was a miracle when playing football, basketball, and baseball. Make-A-Wish treated him to: play basketball with the O.S.U. men's basketball team where he shot 3 pointers and made more than some of the team members did that day. He threw out the first pitch for the Columbus Clippers AAA baseball team. He stood on the center of the mound and threw a strike. By the time he was in middle school, he was ill too much of the time to continue playing football but he did play basketball in the 7th grade until tournament time - when he went back into the hospital. He spent almost all of his 8th grade year in the hospital and kept his grades up - continuing to receive straight A's. His Memorial Service was held in the high school football stadium with around 4000 people attending. 1000 balloons were released that night. Our town is small - just making city status a year ago. Many people who did not know Brock personally followed his life. Neighboring schools, as well as college and professional athletes still wear Brock bracelets in his memory. He had a personal relationship with God and brought many people into the church. He was not afraid to talk of God. It just came out of his mouth naturally. I never, personally, saw him without a smile and a little giggle. He would say, "Take one day at a time." " Some days are good and some days are bad. You just have to make the best of it." The foundation was formed to continue his legacy. They hold fundraisers to help "pay it forward". They have helped many families through the Canal Winchester Food Pantry, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and other venues. In October, on Brock's birthday, they hold a Birthday Party for the whole town as well as collecting stuffed animals and games for the hospital. They, also, treat the local teachers and first responders on his birthday. Strangers are doing "Acts of Kindness" everyday around here now in his name. It's been amazing how he - a 14 year old - has changed things through out our town and much further away. Just go to their web site to see all the good he is still doing for and to people across the USA. (This is the Brock Strong Foundation in Canal Winchester Ohio.)
