About Building Better Days
The mission of Building Better Days is to provide building toys for hospitalized children in Maryland. We believe that days spent in the hospital take children away from their lives spent running, playing and enjoying their friends. We want to give children a piece of childhood by providing building and constructing toys. Our hope is that it will take their minds off the treatments and procedures that they are going through, help them connect to their creative selves, and make new friends by sharing their creations with others. Our goals are to give the gift of a building toy to improve a child’s hospital stay, support important educational development and improve their quality of life. We give building toys (like Lego's and K'Nex) to children in the hospital admitted for two or more nights, who are recovering from surgery or have a serious illness and are in and out of the hospital often. We were founded by Ben who was diagnosed with lymphoma in the Spring of 2015 when he was 12 years old. He spent many long days and weeks in the hospital. Once Ben finished his treatment protocol, he wanted to help other children who had to spend time in the hospital. He decided that he wanted to create Building Better Days to give building toys like Lego’s and KNex to other children since they were what made his days better. Donations are used to purchase building toys to give to pediatric patients.
