Games For Love is a 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to easing suffering, saving lives, and creating sustainable futures for children. We mobilize gaming communities to help kids for life. OUR SERVICES: Medical Funding & Distraction Therapy (gaming sessions) for kids who are hospitalized Coding Courses, Scholarships, and STEM Internships for kids who are marginalized Volunteer & Mentorship Opportunities for STEM pros (former kids) looking to give back __ JOY'S STORY: Joy is a 7-year-old girl who, in October 2020, was diagnosed in her leg with Osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer. Her best shot at recovery was chemotherapy, a treatment designed to prevent her cancer from spreading. The local city government referred Joy to Games For Love, to receive financial support for treatment through our 1UP LifeBridge program in the Philippines. With Games For Love in her corner, Joy fought her cancer like a superhero! She endured months of chemotherapy, countless surgeries, even the amputation of her leg. After ten months of chemotherapy, Joy's condition worsened. She needed the emotional support of her parents, so her father left his job as a fisherman to move to the city where Joy was being treated. Her mom, a community health worker, stayed behind, unable to travel at 9 months pregnant. The family was now without income, miles and miles from one another. None of this was easy for Joy or her parents, but they persevered with support from the team at Games For Love. In addition to financial support, Joy asked Games For Love for a cell phone, which we thought she'd use to distract herself by playing games in the hospital. She told us she wanted to used the phone to stay in touch with her mom. We had a phone on its way to her within hours. In June 2021, we received a heartwarming update - Joy was finally cancer-free! She was going home with her parents to meet her new baby brother. Her family sent their sincere gratitude to Games For Love. Her mother said: “Maraming maraming Salamat po sa tulong niyo. Kung Hindi po namin kayo nakilala, Hindi po namin alam Kung nasaan kami ngayon”. (Thank you so much for all your help. If we hadn’t known you, we don’t know where we would be now.) Our latest update from Joy tells us she’s back at school, thriving in her online classes. She is a bright student and fast learner who loves to play and socialize.
