About Animal League of Gaston County
Animal League of Gaston County was started in 2002 to improve the lives of animals through advocacy, education and service. ALGC opened the Gaston Low-Cost Spay/Neuter clinic in 2009. The Clinic celebrated its 70,000th surgery in October, 2023. ALGC subsidizes spay/neuter surgeries for those in financial need to reduce the number of animals that are euthanized. Donations are used to provide reduced cost spay and neuter surgeries for per owners who cannot afford to have their pet altered. Funding is also needed to continue our feral and community cat program. These cats do not have owners, but many have caregivers who are willing to humanely trap them and have them altered and vaccinated. Many pets arrive at our clinic with easily treatable infections, such as Urinary Tract Infections, Coccidia or eye infections. The cost of antibiotics is prohibitive for some pet owners. Donations help responsible low-income pet owners buy medicine for their pets. We work with volunteers to build large fenced areas to free dogs from their chains. A fence build for one dog costs $600 and 2 dogs are $750. We also provide a pet food pantry to help owners facing economical hardship keep their pets in a home where they are so loved.
