About Save Sea Otters From Cosmetic Trash
Sea Otter Foundation & Trust You simply cannot recycle empty lipsticks, mascaras, concealers, or anything currently in your make-up bag with your standard recycling bin. That means all those empty beauty supplies may end up destroying sea otter homes. As long as people continue to wear make-up, sea otters’ ocean habitats are affected by cosmetic trash. That’s why we at the Sea Otter Foundation & Trust (SOFT) are raising funds to double our recycling program at local beauty salons. Since 2014, our “Keep it Clean for Sea Otters” program has recycled over 17,000 beauty care products and cosmetics by partnering with local beauty salons to organize pick-up stations and reduce trash directly from the source in Westminster, Colorado. This year, we won an award from TerraCycle for our exceptional recycling effort in the beauty care category. $250 will allow us to purchase more recycling bins to help double our recycling impact this year and save twice as many sea otters! Sea otters inspire. Of course, falling in love with sea otters is easy - they're fuzzy, playful and adorably cute. But, that's not why they inspire us at the Sea Otter Foundation & Trust (SOFT). They inspire because of their perseverance to survive despite incredible odds stacked against them; their ingenuity in using random items as tools to crack open their many meals of the day; and, maybe most importantly, their ability to indicate to us how we are impacting our oceans. If you wear makeup or know anyone who wears makeup, please shop for good to support our GoodCause.
