10 Stores That Are Doing It Big For Goodshop Sunday

On November 29th, Goodshop Sunday will redefine the Black Friday model of post-Turkey Day shopping to not only help you save dollars and time, but also to help you give back to the organizations you hold dear. We’ve teamed up with over 250 merchants, who have pledged to double their standard donation contributions. Some over-achievers will be giving back even more through their own philanthropic endeavors. We’re spotlighting ten vendors who make it their business to be a force for good worldwide. Whether they’re partnering with charities, sponsoring students and artists, or organizing internal volunteering programs for their employees, consider these organizations committed to triple donations this Goodshop Sunday.

Anthropologie

The leaders of Anthropologie are not content with just designing delicately quirky clothing and accessories.  Their gorgeous stores also serve as the backdrop for hundreds of charitable events each year.  The clothing chain holds a special place in its heart for its hometown of Philadelphia, partnering with numerous local nonprofits in the city of brotherly love from The Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts to the Cancer Support Community of Greater Philadelphia.

American Eagle Outfitters

American Eagle seeks to not only clothe young people in the trendiest styles, but also to equip them for successful futures. Their Project Live Your Life seeks to put the spotlight on customers who embody “a passion for life and a strong desire to change the world for  the better.”  American Eagle inspires by sharing the stories of artists, athletes, scholars, and community leaders, and gives these young people opportunities for professional development by allowing them to shoot national advertising campaigns and design clothing.

Macy’s

While Macy’s provides meaningful contributions to various nonprofits through generous donations, the department store stands out because of its Partners In Time employee volunteerism program.  Partners in Time boasts impressive numbers: in 2014 34,000 participants joined in more than 4,000 community projects, totaling more than 188,000 volunteer hours.  Partners in Time allows Macy’s employees to develop team-building and leadership skills while giving back and improving their communities.

Toms

Toms sells high quality shoes, eyewear, coffee, accessories, and backpacks.  They seek to not only improve the lives of their customers, but also to help those who cannot afford their merchandise . Philanthropy is woven into the core of this company, and when you buy a Toms product you help give shoes, sight, water, safe birth, and bullying prevention services to those who desperately need them.

Lands’ End

Lands’ End allows its employees to drive the company’s philanthropic endeavors, by both connecting its workers with local charitable organizations to contribute to the causes that interest them and with its matching contributions program. In additional to all the clothing they sell, Lands’ End also sells top-notch outdoor apparel, so it makes sense that its employees care about the environment.  Lands’ End is devoted to cleaner lakes, promoting recycling, and preserving the nation’s lighthouses.

Threads 4 Thought

Doing good is at the core of this casual clothing company, which seeks to revolutionize the fashion world through sustainable production practices.  Threads 4 Thought manufactures their products in China, Kenya, and India, seeking to provide fair trade certified work to people in the area and help improve rather than damage local ecosystems.  Whether through innovative water-recycling practices or low-impact reactive dyes, Threads 4 Thought seeks to change the relationship between the fashion industry and the environment for the better.

Gymboree

It makes sense that a company that makes clothes and offers music classes for toddlers would have a vested interest in protecting the health of children.  But Gymboree goes above and beyond in their work with Saint Jude’s children’s hospital, a foundation it has supported for just a little under a decade.  Gymboree has raised over $7 million dollars to help Saint Judes fight cancer and other serious illnesses that put children at risk.

Diane Von Furstenberg

A high-end designer and pioneer in women’s fashion, Diane Von Furstenberg seeks to recognize and enable fellow extraordinary women in the world. The DVF awards are a yearly celebration of female leaders, an event that seeks to spread awareness and further fund the incredible work women are accomplishing all over the globe.  DVF award winners are given $50,00 to continue in their educational, artistic, and humanitarian pursuits.

Barnes and Noble

Barnes and Noble was founded on the idea that bookstores enable communities.  Their stores serve as community centers and platforms for book drives, summer reading programs, and many more events to benefit children and instill the importance of literacy.  Barnes and Noble also seeks to honor outstanding educators through their My Favorite Teacher Contest, where elementary school students submit essays about their favorite teachers.  Winning teachers receive cash prizes and books for their schools.

Guess

Guess is serious about the latest trends, so they took fostering the next generation of fashion talent into their own hands through the Guess Scholars Program.  Every year Guess awards two outstanding students with full scholarships to the Fashion Institute of Merchandise and Design in Los Angeles. Three runners up also receive significant financial aid to this prestigious fashion incubator. The Guess Scholars Program seeks to make the world of fashion design more equitable and diverse.

Shop these great stores and many more on Goodshop Sunday, November 29th.
